The Deslondes, the gifted collective of New Orleans songwriters, mine from the rich vein of American music to craft their compelling and wholly unique sound. On June 7th, as part of Americana Month, the band will release the Indie Retail exclusive 7” Tres Grand Serpent / What Are They Doing In Heaven Today?.

Co-produced with Andrija Tokic (Benjamin Booker, Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at his Nashville studio The Bomb Shelter, the 2 tracks are equal parts classic soul and gospel, swamp-boogie and honky tonk. The A-Side, Tres Grand Serpent is a romping hedonistic original by the band’s virtuosic multi-instrumentalist John James Tourville. The B-Side, What Are They Doing In Heaven Today? is the band’s soulful arrangement of the 1901 hymn by American Methodist minister Charles Albert Tindley.

Comprised of five distinct songwriting voices, The Deslondes endeavor to carry on the traveling troubadour tradition of their heroes Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt. The Deslondes have also toured the country extensively and have supported the Alabama Shakes, Old Crow Medicine Show, Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Lumineers, John Fullbright, Michael Kiwanuka, Spirit Family Reunion and performed at last summer’s Newport Folk Festival.
